With Gekko now joining the Valorant roster as the latest agent, it's crucial to familiarize yourself with his abilities in order to gain an edge in competitive play. By understanding the intricacies of his kit, you can strategize and counter Gekko effectively.
One of Gekko's most powerful abilities is his signature E, called Dizzy. With just a toss, Dizzy sends out a plasma blast that blinds enemies in its path, making it an ideal flash to help Gekko's team take control of bomb sites.
Unlike traditional flashes, Dizzy's effect is a static image that covers the enemy's entire point of view, leaving them completely vulnerable. Additionally, a plasma beam projectile is fired at the blinded enemy, revealing their location to Gekko's team for maximum impact. Plus, if Gekko retrieves Dizzy, the ability is instantly refreshed and put on a short cooldown. With Dizzy by your side, you'll have a slippery ally you can count on!
Gekko's Wingman ability is the perfect partner in crime, sending out a concussive blast towards the first enemy sighted, stunning them. But that's not all - using Alt-fire while targeting a Spike site or planting Spike, Wingman can even plant or defuse the Spike. If Wingman expires, it turns into an ornamented globule that Gekko can interact with to regain a charge after a short cooldown.
This ability is a game-changer, especially on difficult maps like Icebox/Pearl B sites and Haven/Lotus C sites, where Spike planting and defusing, can be a challenge. Wingman frees up other players to trade out and take space, making it a must-have. Just be careful since if he is shot down while trying to plant the spike will be dropped on the site. Gekko can pick up the little guy and use him again if he goes down.
Gekko’s next pocket monster is named Mosh, or his C ability Mosh pit. Mosh is a throwable molly-type utility. Upon landing, Mosh expands across a large area, then after a short delay, explodes.
This ability doesn't deal any damage over time, but rather deals a large burst of damage when it explodes.
This means two things:
This ability can be used as a lineup to maximize its value on every single bomb site.
This ability doesn’t just clear out an area where it lands. It first needs time to initialize then explode later. So, you are going to need some good team coordination and timing to make sure no one is caught by surprise from enemies standing in the danger zone before it has time to tick down.
Last but certainly not least is Gekko’s ultimate ability: "Trash". Gekko links with Thrash's mind and can steer her through enemy territory similar to a Skye dog. ACTIVATE to lunge forward and explode, detaining any enemies in a small radius.
When Thrash expires, she reverts into an adamant globule INTERACT to reclaim the globule and gain another Thrash charge after a short cooldown. You heard that right, Thrash is a skye dog that DETAINS enemies when impacting them. This ultimate is amazing for helping duelists, specifically, movement duelists, take and create space. I mean there isn’t much any player can do once detained with a Yoru, Neon, Jett, or Raze rushing toward you.
Expect the meta to be disrupted by Gekko, whose unique Valorant kit includes new mechanics and play styles that can be combined with other agents. In solo queue games, prepare to encounter players who are "learning" Gekko. While it remains to be seen if Gekko can meet the standards set by Sova or Kayo in the initiator role, his abilities offer an exceptionally high skill ceiling due to their interactions and the ability to reuse them for additional plays.
