Mastering DPS in Overwatch 2 can be challenging, especially for those unfamiliar with the game’s arena shooter elements. The game features diverse map layouts with a wide variety of points of elevation, numerous movement abilities among heroes, and a wide array of player models amongst these heroes, each with unique hitbox sizes and health point stats.

To excel as a damage dealer in Overwatch, honing your skills in both flicking and tracking is essential, with tracking being the dominant mechanic. In games with a high TTK and a variety of different player movements to deal with, tracking takes precedence over flicking as you will be required to keep your crosshair fixed on a target as accurately as possible in order to deal sustained damage. This becomes particularly evident when considering the significant differences in hero hitboxes and movement abilities.

While the flicking or clicking aspect also applies to dynamic targets, this mechanic mainly applies to heroes that can deal high amounts of damage in a single instance, like Widowmaker or Sojourn. While flicking is a separate mechanic from tracking, tracking still plays a crucial role within the subset. Despite the occasional need for swift, sharp adjustments onto a target, Overwatch’s clicking component largely relies on your ability to track opponents between shots, watch any professional play Cassidy, and this will be made apparent.

To enhance your Overwatch mechanics through aim training at an optimal rate, it is crucial to engage in tasks that combine both tracking and flicking. The featured task is designed to teach you how to keep your crosshair on a target as it attempts to be evasive, while you also develop your ability to switch between tracking and flicking effortlessly by also prompting you to flick to dynamic targets.

The task will have you track three bots with distinct movement patterns in separate phases. When the cigar or pill shaped target is on screen, hover your crosshair over the target without holding down your fire button. After doing 15 damage to that target, a single sphere target will spawn, and you will have to click on it within 5 seconds to get extra points. If you fail to shoot that target, you will lose points. The phases will repeat, with the tracking target being located in different positions each phase.

Practice your reactive tracking, while being ready to make a quick flick to the sphere target, then reset to begin tracking again. Developing the ability to handle scenarios like this will help you adapt to the mixed nature of challenges you will run into in Overwatch and other similar titles!
