Master the Wingman in Apex Legends

Learn all about the Wingman in Apex Legends, along with the strengths, weaknesses and benefits of getting comfortable with this sidearm.

The Wingman is one of Apex Legends’ only single-fire weapons outside of shotguns and sniper rifles, and it has been a weapon of choice for tons of professional players ever since the game’s initial release. The Wingman is a high-risk risk high-reward weapon; its high damage output and slow rate of fire means that while in the right hands, the weapon is a force to be reckoned with, but missing your shots will significantly reduce your damage output. Paired with the recoil, bullet travel time, and bullet drop in Apex legends, it becomes increasingly difficult to land your Wingman shots in longer distance engagements.

While it is a difficult weapon to master and is substantially less forgiving than options such as the R-301 or the Flatline, the Wingman is undoubtedly worth running as your primary if you can get comfortable using it. Besides its high damage output, the Wingman also boasts the movement benefit of falling under the “pistol” category; this means you will receive no movement penalty while ADSing, contrary to any other weapon class.

That fact alone gives the Wingman a huge advantage. Movement is a crucial part of Apex Legends, and being able to strafe faster as you ADS makes it much easier to avoid getting hit while using the Wingman and makes it the perfect gun to jiggle peek with from behind cover. Furthermore, the Wingman boasts a 2.15x headshot multiplier, which can be further increased to 2.5x if equipped with the “skull piercer” hop-up attachment.
