New VALORANT Video Guide: Why Clove is the Only Controller That Survives at High Ranks

The higher you climb in VALORANT, the fewer controllers survive. Here's why Clove is the exception, and how you can make the most of them!

As you get higher up the ranked ladder, you start to notice that controller mains just thin out. You will see the occasional Omen or Viper, maybe a Miks… But their win rates at the top aren’t great. One controller is getting picked a lot, though, and their win rate is significantly higher than the rest of the role, and that’s Clove.

Clove is just straight up built different. Their kit is designed around the idea that you should be able to create value off your own back, which is why you see them surviving at ranks where most other controllers can’t hang. The ability to heal off kills, smoke after death, and ult back into a round that should already be over means Clove can punish mistakes, make plays in situations where any other controller would be spectating, and give themself the chance to rejoin the round. The kit is on another level.

This new video guide over on the ProGuides VALORANT YouTube channel breaks down exactly how to get the most out of Clove’s kit, from the less obvious interactions on Pick-Me-Up, including timing the heal around the tag effect and using the movement boost to throw off players holding your angle, through to how to use Not Dead Yet as a pressure tool rather than a panic button. There is also a practical note on buying a Shorty when you have ult, which pulls out faster after reforming than a rifle and can clean up an up close fight before the opponent can react. If you’ve been playing Clove, but feel like the kit isn’t clicking the way it should… watch this video.
