One of the most common aspects of aiming that players struggle with is their tracking. Tracking is one of those fundamentals that actually feeds into a lot of the other aiming categories, as tracking tends to go hand in hand with mouse control, which just impacts everything overall, as well as smoothness, which can help to improve your angle clearing and swinging, as well as your overall flicking accuracy.
On its own, tracking is just critical with games that often feature higher TTK, from hero shooters like Overwatch and Marvel Rivals, to the hybrid MOBA shooters like Deadlock, where maintaining crosshair uptime over your targets for longer periods of time can absolutely decide a duel.
To help you work on your tracking, our buddy lowgravity56, the architect of the Aim Basics Routines series, has put together two awesome playlists, one that is a bit easier, designed as an entry-level routine, and another that is more advanced, for intermediate players, focused on tracking control and stability.

The playlist is built with tracking control and stability concepts in mind, featuring tasks that will help you practice raw control, smooth tracking, reactive correction, and vertical precision. The easy version of the playlist should run you just over 20 minutes to complete, while the intermediate version will take slightly longer, around 25 minutes. Now, let’s dive into a rundown of the tasks featured on the playlist.
The Tasks
Raw Control and Smooth Tracking:
Controlsphere 2.0 – Here’s the anchor task of the playlists. It features a floating sphere that strafes across all three axes. Your goal here is to match the target’s speed without flicking back when you lose it. Assume it holds its current direction, then correct only once you’re sure it’s changed course. This will help train the smooth reading and following habit that factors into the rest of the routine.
Smoothsphere 2.0 – This task operates with the same tracking philosophy as Controlsphere, but it stretches the strafes out further. The longer strafes change the rhythm of the practice, rewarding patience over quick reactions while also giving you more time to identify when your tracking is drifting off course.
Whisphere 2.0 – Here’s another task with a floating sphere target that is strafing across all three axes, which is also built around that same smooth, less predictable tracking approach as the previous two tasks. It may seem redundant, but running different variations of that core loop will help reinforce the habit through repetition, locking it in.
CloverRawControl 2.0 – This task narrows that same smooth tracking approach to just the X and Y axes, removing depth from the equation and isolating the core habit without that added complexity. Stripping it down a bit will help you check in to ensure those fundamentals are sticking.
High Velocity Stability:
Smoothbot 2.0 – With this task, we’re swapping out the floating sphere for a cylinder target that flies in fast arcs with varied speed and acceleration. This one leans much heavier on your arm aim than the other tasks in the playlists, and there’s less emphasis on reacting to those changes in direction here, with more of a focus on smooth, precise tracking of a target that will change its velocity.
Reactive Control:
Controltrack 2.0 – This scenario deliberately reintroduces reactivity. You’re still building on your smoothness, but now you’re back to reacting to movement changes, correcting your aim onto the target as quickly as possible, which should help to bridge the stability work from the rest of the playlist with the microcorrections that you’ll often find yourself using in your aim duels.
Vertical Precision:
PreciseOrb 2.0 – Both playlists close with this task, which features a target that leaps into the air and falls back down in an arc, flipping the tracking problem from horizontal strafes to a vertical trajectory. It’s a different read than everything before it, since you’re following an arc instead of those other targets that change direction. As a quick note, the target may occasionally double-jump, as this task uses an experimental new target behavior. If you notice it, just restart the task!
